David A. Paslin, M.D. — Physician and Dermatologist Surgeon for the Treatment of Dermatologic Diseases

Dr. Paslin brings over 30 years of experience in clinical practice and biomedical research in broad areas of dermatology and dermatologic surgery.

Dr. Paslin is one of the founding partners of Affiliates in Dermatology, the oldest office specialized in dermatology in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. He has also been chief of dermatology at Summit Hospital, Oakland. For many years Dr. Paslin has been on the clinical faculty of at the University of California at San Francisco’s School of Medicine and contributed to the teaching program of the dermatology residents. Dr. Paslin also serves as an Adjunct Scientist at Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute (CHORI). In April 2011, Dr. Paslin performed surgery for skin cancer on California governor Jerry Brown.

Dr. Paslin is Board Certified in both Dermatology and Dermatopathology. In his clinical practice, he has treated thousands of patients in a broad range of dermatological conditions, including hamartomas, benign neoplasias, malignancies, endocrinopathies, malformations, infections, autoimmune diseases, hereditary disorders, metabolic disorders, disorders of pigmentation and many forms of dermatitis as well as many disorders of hair and nails. Dr. Paslin also conducted many years of basic and clinical research in malignant melanoma, published many impactful papers on this subject, as well as on psoriasis, lichen sclerosus, the porphyries, and atopic dermatitis on which subject he is an inventor and owns US Patents.

Dr. Paslin graduated with distinction with a bachelor’s degree in biology at Stanford University, and an MD from the University of California at Los Angeles. He completed a straight medical internship at the United States Public Health Service Hospital, Staten Island, New York, followed by 2 years as a General Medical Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service during which time he received a Helicopter Rescue Award. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard, being ship’s physician at Ocean Station Bravo between Labrador and Newfoundland. Dr. Paslin completed Residency Training in Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania, and contributed to a Monograph on the Department of Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania.
