Xiang Chen, Ph.D. – Expert in Biodiversity and Medicinal Botanicals

Dr. Chen is an expert in biodiversity, plant taxonomy and informatics, and medicinal botanicals in the geographically unique mountain areas of Southwest China, including the provinces of Guizhou, Sichuan and Yunnan. Currently, he is Curator of Herbarium of Guizhou Academy of Sciences (HGAS), China, and Deputy Director of the Institute of Biology of GAS. Dr. Chen also serves as Secretary General of the Guizhou Botanical Society, a senior member of China Botanical Society, on the evaluation committee of Guizhou Nature Preserve Areas, and on the Committee of Botanical Experts (China) in the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN).


Dr. Chen received his Ph.D. degree from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, South China Botany Garden, and B.S. and M.S. degrees from College of Agriculture, Guizhou University; and from 2002 to 2003, he was a visiting scholar conducting systematic studies of flora at the Canadian Museum of Nature. As one of the main editors, Dr. Chen participates in the compilation of a landmark book, “Flora of China” (English version), a joint effort of botanists from China and abroad.[read more]
