L. Daniel Stern, MD, FACS — General Surgeon and Emergency Medicine Physician

Dr. Stern brings over 40 years of experience in clinical practice in general surgery and emergency medicine in trauma wound management.

Dr. Stern co-founded the Burn Unit of the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center along with Dr. James Mark, professor of surgery at Stanford University Hospital. As one of the most recognized surgeons for treating burn injuries in Silicon Valley, Dr. Stern has trained many resident surgeons and medical students in hospitals and medical schools locally and nationwide, including Santa Clara Country Hospital Burn Unit, Loyola University in Chicago, and Harvard Medical School - Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Stern has led physician delegations in the US to participate in clinical training and information exchange in conferences with burn management colleagues in foreign countries, such as Mexico, China, Czechoslovakia, UK, and Sweden. Dr. Stern has published numerous papers on burn wound management, treatment of breast cancer (with emphasis on breast conservation), as well as on pre- and post-operative care of surgical patients with AIDS. Dr. Stern has also been active in the practice of thoracic and general surgery in Good Samaritan Hospital, Los Gatos and O’Connor Hospital, San Jose, California.

Dr. Stern completed his surgical residency training in Cedars of Lebanon Hospital, Los Angeles and senior residency in Kings County Hospital, Brooklyn, New York, and graduated with an MD degree from University of Manitoba, Canada..
