David J. Weitz, J.D. – Strategist in Life Science Business Transactions
Mr. Weitz is a seasoned attorney with extensive experiences in corporate business transactions and technology licensing in strategic alliances between pharmaceutical and biotech companies in the US, EU and Japan.

Currently he serves as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Intellectual Property Counsel for Takeda San Diego, Inc. (Takeda SD), and is responsible for the legal, intellectual property and compliance operations of the company. Mr. Weitz joined Takeda, SD (then Syrrx) in 2002 as General Counsel and Vice President of Intellectual Property. Prior to Syrrx's acquisition by Takeda, Mr. Weitz established and built the company's legal and intellectual property departments. He also negotiated all of Syrrx's major business transactions including the acquisition of the company by Takeda in 2005. Following the acquisition by Takeda, Mr. Weitz has been heavily involved with the integration of Syrrx with Takeda and numerous Takeda business development efforts including executed deals with PPD, Alnylam, XOMA, and Archemix.

Prior to joining Syrrx/Takeda, Mr. Weitz was a Partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati (WSGR) of Palo Alto, CA where he co-headed the firm's patent department. At WSGR, his practice covered all aspects of intellectual property and focused on companies in the areas of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemistry, material science, medical devices, lasers and optics.

Mr. Weitz received his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley (Boalt Hall School of Law), a Masters of Science degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. in Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
